Unidentified, sunken grave at base of tree.

A large pile of rocks was placed many years ago around the base of an Oak tree on the north side of the cemetery. A resident on County Road 2333-1 who helped me find this cemetery stated that, "It is well known in these here parts that them Hosey folks buried a large hoard of gold coins under these rocks." Over the years, the County Road 2333-1 resident has had to chase folks away who turned up at all hours of the night with pick-axes, shovels, and a determination beyond all belief to "get at that Hosey fortune." He felt that it was his obligation to protect the graves of these early Mississippi settlers.

This appears to be an unidentified, sunken grave.

Brief explanation of the relation of these Hosey and Moss family members to Jesse Cooper.

Richmond Hosey
Born: August 6, 1822, Wayne District, Mississippi Territory
Married: 1843, Jasper County, Mississippi (1)
Spouse: Lucinda Wade (1)
Married: circa 1844 (2)
Spouse: Elizabeth Matilda Moore (2)
Died: April 1, 1893
Buried: Union Seminary Baptist Church Cemetery

Richmond and his first wife, Lucinda Wade Hosey, had several children. Of these children, sons Thomas Hosey (1845-1851) and Hezakiah Hosey (1849-1867) are the two whose stones are shown above. Lucinda Wade Hosey's stone is also shown above. Richmond Hosey is not buried at Granny's Field Cemetery.

Note: Anna Hosey's brother was William Grancor Hosey, Sr., who was the father to Richmond Hosey. This would make Richmond Hosey the nephew of Anna Hosey Cooper, who was Jesse Cooper's wife.

Jane Hosey Moss
Born: May 14, 1838
Spouse: Benjamin Franklin Moss

Jane Hosey Moss was the daughter of William Grancor Hosey, Sr., and married Benjamin Franklin Moss. Both J.W. Moss (1873-1874) and B.D. Moss (1861-1865) were sons of Jane Hosey Moss and her husband, Benjamin Franklin Moss. The stones of these two sons are shown above.

Note: Anna Hosey's brother was William Grancor Hosey, Sr., who was the father to Jane Hosey Moss. This would make Jane Hosey Moss the neice of Anna Hosey Cooper, who was Jesse Cooper's wife.
